Melina has worked closely with several of Duval County’s specialty court programs, including Veterans Treatment Court (VTC), Mental Health Court, and Adult Drug Court. These programs are designed to address the underlying factors that often contribute to involvement in the justice system while maintaining accountability and public safety.
Veterans Treatment Court supports military veterans facing challenges related to service-connected trauma, substance use, or mental health conditions. Mental Health Court provides structured supervision and treatment for individuals with diagnosed mental health disorders. Adult Drug Court focuses on recovery and accountability for those struggling with substance use disorders.
Through her work in these courts, Melina has helped support balanced approaches that emphasize treatment, responsibility, and long-term stability. Her involvement reflects a belief that justice must be firm, fair, and grounded in both the rule of law and an understanding of the human circumstances that bring people before the court.
Melina Buncome has remained actively engaged in serving the Duval County community beyond the courtroom through ongoing volunteer service, legal outreach, and civic involvement. She has participated in community-based legal aid initiatives, including “Ask A Lawyer” events and sealing and expungement clinics, helping individuals better understand their legal rights and navigate the justice system.
Melina has also supported programs that serve military veterans through volunteer work with local veterans’ organizations, participation in Veterans Day community events, and service projects such as veterans’ cemetery cleanups. In addition, she has contributed to youth mentorship and education by organizing and leading mock trial programs for students participating in the Vision for Excellence summer program for more than a decade.
Her commitment to service extends to charitable initiatives throughout Jacksonville, including organizing and participating in annual Angel Tree drives and volunteering with the Salvation Army. Melina has further demonstrated leadership within the legal community through her involvement with pro bono initiatives and her service as Co-Chair of the Pro Bono Committee.
