Melina Buncome has dedicated her legal career to serving the people of Duval County as a Public Defender. In that role, she has represented individuals across a wide range of criminal cases, ensuring that constitutional rights are protected and that every person receives fair and impartial treatment under the law.
Her years of courtroom experience have provided her with a deep understanding of criminal procedure, evidentiary standards, and the importance of judicial impartiality. She believes that the integrity of the justice system depends on judges who are prepared, thoughtful, and committed to applying the law fairly to every case that comes before them.
Melina has worked closely with Duval County’s Veterans Treatment Court (VTC), a specialized court program designed to address the unique challenges faced by military veterans involved in the justice system.
Veterans Treatment Court focuses on accountability, treatment, and structured supervision — helping veterans access critical services while maintaining responsibility under the law.
